The City of Davis announced today that it has received a Beacon Leadership and Innovation Award from the Institute for Local Government (ILG) for interagency collaboration for its partnership with UC Davis on the Healthy Davis Together (HDT) project. Healthy Davis Together has helped prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the city and coordinated the gradual return of UC Davis students to the community.
Healthy Davis Together launched in September 2020 and within months began free saliva-based tests at several locations around the city. This month, HDT passed the milestone of one million tests completed (including those from the expanded county project Healthy Yolo Together).
The initiative also provided community outreach on testing, business-focused outreach and assistance, advertising to promote healthy behaviors, safe opening plans for businesses and schools, and the availability of vaccines.
âOur community is grateful and fortunate for this project which has helped protect our health and is helping us bounce back as a college town,â said Mayor Gloria Partida. âWe are proud to receive the Beacon Leadership and Innovation Award which recognizes the many months of hard work by so many HDT partners.
âThe UC Davis community doesn’t stop at campus borders,â said Gary S. May, chancellor of the University of California, Davis. âThis partnership highlights the importance of a university for its community. Research, education and awareness, all hallmarks of a public university, have contributed to the success of this partnership by keeping our COVID-19 numbers exceptionally low this past year.
âThe incredible ability of the Davis community to come together is the cornerstone of the success of Healthy Davis Together,â said Brad Pollock, Associate Dean of Public Health Sciences at UC Davis and Project Director of Healthy Davis Together. âThe spirit of collaboration was evident from the very first conversation we had between community, city and university leaders, when the program was just an idea and it stuck. a real partnership since.
