Washington DC, Jan. 24, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — The United Negro College Fund (UNCF) and The Steve Fund proudly host Unapologetically Whole: Living You Best Mental Health Life, a conference for historically Black college and university students ( HBCU) that promotes mental well-being. The event is sponsored by Peloton as part of its partnership with The Steve Fund and Blue Shield of California’s BlueSky Initiative which provides resources for youth, families, educators and caregivers to promote the emotional well-being of youth.
The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and heightened racial tensions across the United States have heightened the urgency to increase the reach and impact of mental health programs in HBCUs and predominantly black institutions (PBIs) . This event is one of the initiatives stemming from the partnership of UNCF and The Steve Fund which began in 2021. Through its partnership with The Steve Fund, UNCF intends to launch its new mental health initiative with strategies, content, programs, resources and events all designed to build knowledge and build a community of action around the mental health and emotional well-being of students, faculty and staff on HBCU campuses and PBI.
The event, taking place January 26-27, will be an interactive program combining knowledge sharing and conversations about critical issues impacting HBCU students and the communities they are connected to. The workshops will be led by experts from HBCU and the mental health communities.
